Project Overview

The Mariposa Road and Escalon-Bellota Road Specific Plan will identify necessary near-term and future traffic operational and safety improvements along the 13.5-mile-long corridor between the Stockton city limits at Austin Road and the Escalon city limits.

Objectives include:

  • Analyzing existing and future traffic volumes
  • Analyzing collision trends along the corridor
  • Identifying interim and long-term road improvements to enhance safety and improve operations, including ultimate right-of-way needs
  • Determining timing and phasing for implementation of roadway improvements and a funding strategy
  • Conducting environmental analysis and preparing documents

Proposed Improvements

The below interactive map identifies near-term and long-term safety and operational improvements. These are summarized below, identified in the map, and additional detail are presented in draft concepts in the "Available Documents" section below.

1. Near-term safety improvements have been identified to slow speeds and improve access: (edgeline rumble strips, transverse rumble strips, speed feedback signage. flashing beacons, and stop control).

2. Widening of some sections of Mariposa Road and Escalon-Bellota Road to 4 lanes to accommodate future travel demand.

3. Realignment of key intersections for better access, sight distance, and safter movements.
